Delbert “Del” Yocam provides IT consulting services as an independent operator at Yocam Holdings, LLC. Over the course of his career in the technology industry, Delbert Yocam has gained expertise with software as a service (SaaS), micro computing, and cloud services.

Cloud computing services, which offer access to data and software through the Internet rather than from a local hard drive, provide businesses and individual operators with a variety of benefits. Cloud computing can be especially useful during disaster recovery situations. A study conducted by Aberdeen Group, a research and analysis firm in the information technology (IT) industry, found that companies relying on outdated computer storage techniques spend an average of eight hours on recovery efforts following data loss and similar issues. By comparison, businesses utilizing cloud services averaged just over two hours.

The immediacy of cloud computing is another major advantage. Businesses in need of more bandwidth, for example, can contact their cloud service provider and quickly access the virtually limitless space offered by remote cloud servers. A business powered by older software components, meanwhile, would need to wait for IT specialists to visit and physically upgrade a company’s servers. Cloud services offer similar advantages when companies need to automatically update software and programs.

<![CDATA[Examples of Cloud Computing Services]]>Thu, 05 Nov 2015 06:15:34 GMThttp://delbertyocam.weebly.com/blog/examples-of-cloud-computing-servicesCalifornia State University Long Beach alumnus Delbert “Del” Yocam is a technology industry executive based in Belleview, Washington. Working with companies in the tech sector since the 1970s, Delbert Yocam has seen the development of many new technologies, including the advent of cloud computing services.

Cloud computing is the process of using Web-based tools and applications to access information on the Internet. This approach is currently gaining popularity in the modern workplace, where employees of technology-centric companies can use cloud computing services to work from home instead of needing to access a computer that is directly connected to a company server.

Examples of cloud computing services include tools such as webmail, which uses cloud storage to archive past email conversations instead of taking up valuable company server space. Additionally, collaborative processes like those available in the Google Docs application make it easy for coworkers to work on special projects together without necessitating the purchase of external storage devices, which can be expensive and easily lost.

Outside of their use in traditional professional settings, cloud computing services also can be found in businesses’ use of social media. Employing viral marketing tactics and connecting with customers via Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter are all examples of a business using the cloud to grow and succeed. ]]>
<![CDATA[Origins of Golf ]]>Tue, 27 Oct 2015 23:34:38 GMThttp://delbertyocam.weebly.com/blog/origins-of-golfFor ten years the chief operating officer of technology icon Apple, Inc., Delbert Yocam has also led technology giants Borland International and Tektronix. He co-founded Yocam Holdings LLC in 2000 and serves today as the firm’s managing partner. An experienced traveler, Delbert Yocam has visited most popular destinations worldwide. An avid golfer, Del Yocam has played numerous major courses in the United States and in Scotland.

The game of golf as we know it was first played in the 15th century in the Kingdom of Fife, which today is part of Scotland. Although similar ball-and-stick games have been recorded as far back as 100 BC, none had the one essential element of the modern game that Scotland introduced – the hole.

By the middle of the 15th century, people in east Scotland so passionately played their game that they were neglecting the national defense, especially archery practice. The game was thus banned, but even though the ban was twice reaffirmed, many people ignored it and enjoyed the game as before, especially in and around the town of St. Andrews. Within 2 years of the lifting of the ban in 1502, Scotland’s King James IV had become an enthusiastic player.

It wasn’t until about 1750, though, that golf acquired the trappings that today are so elemental to the game. Some manufacturers of clubs and balls began to acquire reputations for their high quality while some players began to be recognized for their superior skills. Meanwhile, courses were designed and tournaments were organized.

Around the same time, groups of players formed golf clubs and established formal rules for the game. The first of these, the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, was formed in 1744. The group drew up a set of rules that heavily influenced the rules established 10 years later by the Society of St. Andrews Golfers. These rules form the basis of the game as it’s played today. ]]>

Delbert Yocam, an independent consultant at Yocam Holdings LLC, possesses a wealth of knowledge in software as a service (SaaS) and cloud technology.

A network of servers, cloud technology stores data and services. It is utilized by Dropbox, Adobe Creative Suite Google drive, and Evernote, among other applications, and serves the following benefits.

1. The cloud offers companies flexibility in accessing business information over the Internet. In addition, it reduces the need to purchase expensive hardware that will depreciate over time.

2. The service works well for storing non-sensitive data. However, for individuals seeking a secure platform, enterprises such as Google offer encryption for paid cloud storage service users.

3. The cloud provides one Exabyte of storage, which equates to the quantity of data housed on 4.2 million Macbook Pro hard drives, according to Mashable. ]]>
<![CDATA[Trail Blazers’ Ed Davis - A Solid Offensive and Defensive Player]]>Thu, 10 Sep 2015 22:14:08 GMThttp://delbertyocam.weebly.com/blog/trail-blazers-ed-davis-a-solid-offensive-and-defensive-playerA technology expert, Delbert (Del) Yocam leverages his background in leadership roles at Apple, Tektronix, and Borland International to provide independent consulting through Yocam Holdings LLC. Delbert Yocam also makes time to enjoy personal interests, such as golfing and cheering on the Portland Trail Blazers.

Trail Blazers forward Ed Davis, an underrated player according to Fox Sports, is a solid offensive and defensive player. Known more for his defense, he averaged 7.6 rebounds and blocked 1.2 shots during the 2014-2015 season. That same season, Davis improved his offensive game by forgoing mid-range jumpers and taking the ball into the paint. Averaging 8.3 points per game, he took 71 percent of his shots at the rim. Of his rim shots, 96 percent were within 10 feet of the basket. This increased his field goal percentage to 60.1 percent, a 6.7 percent boost.

To benefit from his talents, Fox Sports suggests the Trail Blazers pair Davis with Meyers Leonard or Noah Vonleh. In doing so, the team will have one of the strongest and youngest frontcourt bench duos. ]]>
<![CDATA[Scoring Above and Below Par On the Golf Course]]>Wed, 02 Sep 2015 18:18:00 GMThttp://delbertyocam.weebly.com/blog/scoring-above-and-below-par-on-the-golf-courseDelbert Yocam spent a decade as chief operating officer with Apple. More recently Delbert Yocam established an independent technology consultancy, Yocam Holdings, LLC. In his free time Del Yocam enjoys traveling and playing golf. He has played on a number of major courses throughout the United States and Scotland.

Every hole on a golf course carries its own par, or score based on the number of strokes in which a golfer is expected to finish the hole. A golfer who takes three strokes to finish a par 3 hole is said to have finished the hole on par. A number of additional golf terms are derived from the concept of par. For example, finishing one stroke over par is known as a bogey, while a double or triple bogey would constitute two or three strokes over par, respectively.

Conversely, finishing a hole one stroke under par is known as a birdie. Keeping in line with the avian imagery, golfers who finish a hole two strokes below par have achieved an eagle, and those finishing three strokes under par have recorded an albatross. The rarest single-hole score a golfer can achieve is known as a condor. Since most of the larger holes on a golf course rank as a par 4 or possibly a par 5, achieving a condor generally involves scoring an ace, or a hole in one. To date, only four golfers have managed to land officially recognized condors. ]]>
